And our GRAND total is.......

Wow! This past weekend we had so many generous donations! We were able to deposit almost $2000 into Ryder's Ability camp account!! Our GRAND total is now $6000.00!!!! Thank you never seems to feel like enough.... My cousins back home threw a very successful poker night. With friends and family they raised $1200 in one night!!! Wow guys, this means so much to us and we all love you so much!! We also had some more than generous donations from family and also friends from my moms work.

Here is a pic my mom took of the last round of the poker night. We have Mike, Tyler and Stan and the man on the far right Larry, who won the pot and very generously donated it ALL to Ryder!! From the sounds of it everyone had an awesome night! Thanks again!

Ryder is doing pretty good. Not much going on these days. Summer has come to an end and Fall is definitely in the air. Our favorite outdoor pool has closed and the leaves are already starting to fall. I took Ryder for one last swim at our favorite beach and we also took him to a little fair where he went on his first carnival rides. All in all it was a good summer but I am a bit disappointed that we spent the majority of it's nice weather waiting for Ryder's walker. Pretty soon we will have to find some indoor options for Ryder to play and get his exercise. In two weeks time Ryder will have casts on both of his legs!! :( Then I am gonna be really stuck for ideas on how to keep this guy busy!! NO swimming and NO baths!! Hopefully he will still be able to use his walker but only time will tell.

The Poker Party was a great success. My Nephews & Neices, Garrett & Sharon Norris organized the event and Shevaun & Tyler Musgrove hosted the Party! We are so blessed to have Family who is always there, no matter what. Huge Thank you's to Charlotte Moore, Stan Sopow, Mike Nygren, Russell & Fiorella Nygren, Brad & Laurie Norris, Brandon Stach, Dannielle Merrilees, Ron Mahoney, Drew & Ashley Williams, John Ranier & of course the man of the Hour Larry Ostrosky. Good Food, Good Laughs, Good Cause. Like Dana says, Thank You, just doesn't seem to be enough sometimes. Note: Grandma does not play Poker very well, squealed when I got a pair of eights, (not very good bluffing behaviour) and then I followed my darling Nephew Garrett and went "all in" and lost and was out within 10 minutes of starting.

Ryder's Story

Ryder and Wyatt are our identical twin boys that were born 12 weeks premature. They suffered from a "rare" disease called Twin to twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS). TTTS affects 10-15% of identical multiples sharing a single placenta. Basically what happens is there are crossed vessels in the placenta forcing one baby to have way too much blood, nutrients & oxygen and the other not enough. Left untreated this heartbreaking disease has a astonishing mortality rate of 90%. Unfortunately I was not diagnosed until I had already gone into labor at 24 weeks gestation so not much could be done. Thankfully the doctors were able to stop my labor and we all made it to 28 weeks. The boys entered their nicu fight together but sadly on their 24 day of life we had to say our goodbyes to sweet Wyatt. Our hearts broke in a million pieces but somehow we picked up a few and continued our fight for Ryder. Ryder stayed in the nicu for 67 long days and was finally able to come home 2 weeks before their anticipated due date. It was a bittersweet day for many. We were told by every doctor that Ryder was just a "normal" baby and not to worry. I never felt right about this and knew there was something more to come. When he was 11 months old he was diagnosed with Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy. Our hearts broke once again and we were left to wonder what his future would hold. When we started this blog Ryder was 19 months old and still could not sit, crawl or walk unassisted. Since then he has made tremendous leaps but he still has a long way to go. He see's his physio therapist and occupational therapist twice a month and speech pathologist once a month. This is what our government will offer and we don't feel it's enough. He has so much determination and we know given the proper tools and therapy nothing will stop him. With your help we sent Ryder to Ability camp in January 2012 and there are many other treatments and alternative therapies we want to give him the opportunity to try.
